I had a good class tonight. It went very smoothly, though a bit long for my wife, who was prowling the library until about 10 pm. Unfortunately for her, the class didn't end until 11:30 pm.
What made it good? The actors were engaged, and I got to wax on about human communication idiosyncrasies and how they apply to each actor that got up to do a scene.
Ultimately, I said to the class, actors need to be observers of human behavior. Because it is "out there in the real world" where we get most of our emotional ammo to be used either in class or in performance. And it comes from being "vulnerable" by my definition: which is open to being changed or affected.
I applaud my actors for their courage to embark on a difficult career choice. And I've chosen to be a guide to each of them at this point in their journey. Because I think that helping another person to grow emotionally and spiritually is a noble act, and one I find delight and fulfillment in.
