Hello Hive world, have a nice summer everyone! It's summer time here, 1st July and the hot weather is really making me think of vacation near the sea drinking beers and generally having a relaxed time. However I'm not on vacation right now and so let's turn to some metal instead!
I've got new material to present here yet again, a handful of music albums that I've purchased lately, I'm collecting all three physical formats (cassettes, cds and vinyl records), this time I've only got cds to present, starting with Atavist and their latest release so far III: Absolution
I think I found out about this band either by listening an interview of guitarist Chris Naughton who was talking about another release and band where he's also participating (Winterfylleth), also have this year a new release - you can have a look at my previous post, second album presented here. Or it was a reading interview, I can't remember precisely. So I thought to check this band's music too, the track available at that time was the following
which got me hooked for good. The album contains four long tracks and it's a great listen for me. It's my first contact with this band and this particular album appeals to me quite a lot.
I've been waiting for it to arrive for almost three weeks, finally today it came in. I'll surely keep an eye for future releases and take each album separately.
Next one to show is from Dark Fortress and an old album from their discography Profane Genocidal Creations
When I first got in touch with this band, their first two albums were being re-released, they were remastered with correct color artwork compared to the original release and printed lyrics for the first time plus two bonus tracks. The orginal release was in 2003 and the remastered version shown here came out in 2017.
When I saw that a metal store here in my city had this album available I had to got get my copy and proudly added it to my collection. Dark Fortress also have a new release this year, I've listened to it and have liked it, I'll try to get that album as well sooner or later.
Moving on, there are two Savatage albums to present, chronologically released starting from Gutter Ballet that originally came out in 1989
I first heard of this band when at the age of around 17-18 myself and friends were visiting a cinema complex in our area where there was also a music store chain and we were entering looking at albums and listening to the ones that were available for listening. At that time there had been released a best of this band under the title From The Gutter To The Stage and I got in touch with most of the band's great songs. The two following songs really hold a very special impression Savatage have given me from back then.
This album originally came out in 1989, the edition I have here is from 2011 being remastered and reissued which includes two bonus tracks that are acoustic versions and belong to the album being presented next.
In 1994 Savatage released Handful of Rain. This album was the first Savatage album along with another release in a 2 Originals Of set in physical format that I had purchased long time ago and having sold this set, I wanted to get this album to keep this time.
The following song was written for Criss Oliva, who was along with his brother Jon the founding members of the band and Criss passed away long before his time really when
On October 17, 1993, at around 3:30 a.m., Oliva and his wife Dawn were driving north on Highway 301 on their way to the Fourth Annual Livestock Festival held in Zephyrhills, Florida, just north of Tampa. An oncoming car operated by a drunk driver crossed the median and struck Oliva's 1992 Mazda RX-7 head-on. Dawn survived the crash, but Oliva was killed instantly. The drunk driver, who had seven prior drunk driving (DUI) convictions, survived with minor injuries and was later found guilty of DUI manslaughter, DUI serious injury and vehicular homicide, and served 18 months in prison of a five-year sentence.
The edition I have here is from 2011 reissue and includes two bonus tracks being acoustic versions of two songs.
