Plants split marble as they erupt from the floor. A crack crawls and rumbles in between my feet where I stand in the middle of the atrium. My gasp and laugh bounces off the walls and out to the courtyard. After a moment a shrill imitation of my laugh cuts through silence like a knife. It’s too dark to scan for signs of movement. my imagination is too unreliable to make shapes out of shadows so I stand perfectly still exposed to another’s presence
