Ade, an athlete blessed with endless talents in sports.
There was no part in sports that he could not play. He was good at soccer, he was good in football, he was a really incredible swimmer, he was a hot shot basketballer with skills to match the hoops, he was a total sport god and everyone knew it. But dispute the fact that he was a sports God he was still occasionally defeated in all of the sports game categories except for one, swimming.
For some reason, Ade had a tight bond with water, so much so, that when ever he dives into the water, he becomes one with the water, moving as free as a fish would but still faster, like a human torpedo. He held the record for the longest held breath underwater. And so he was named the Water God aka Aquaman.
He had participated in so many competition against rival schools and rival opponent, defeating them over and over again, it was as if he was born to swim.
Time passed on , and it was time again for the regional inter school Olympic games qualifiers and Ade as usually, was ready to take off , but this time he was joined by , the schools new recruite to the swim club, his name, Jeremy.
Jeremy was a tall dark and handsome lad , who had hair that rivalled that of only "Dwanye D'Rock Johnson', yes, he was bald, and he look extremely handsome In his shaved head.
Everyone in the locker grew fond of him except for Ade who simply couldn't see what was so special in this Jeremy guy, he was still faster than every guy in the swim team, which meant he was the most popular so it didn't matter matter to him anyways.
Ade took to training as usual as he had been drafted by the team's coach to represent their school. He was more than delighted to do so. So he put in extra time into his training, practicing every stroke possible and increasing his swim speed and making sure he was ready for the show, because this was his big break,his time to shine in the spotlight,and nothing was going to hold him back.
Two days before the regional qualifiers, Ade returned to the training ground to train as usually , there he met Jeremy and the rest of his teammates, who were also training as well.
"Hey dude , what's up " Ade said greeting the guys present in the pool even Jeremy who he wasn't still fond.
They shaked hands and did a bro hug.
"So , where's the coach ? " Ade asked now changing into his swimming gear .
"He said he's gonna be some few minutes late" Cody one of his teammates said , " hey, did you know that Jeremy is as fast as you in water. He might even be faster than you" he said.
" No body is faster than me Cody " Ade said which full confidence and swagger.
"Well don't be too sure bro, because Jeremy's got skills that pays the bills" Cody said as he tap Ade lightly on the shoulder before heading out.
Back at the pool side Ade sat and watched the first set of swimmers as they dived into the water , and swarm like their life depended on it but just like Ade said no one was faster than him.
Then the second squad lined up for their turn and Ade was among the second squad , so also was Jeremy.
"READY!!, SET !! GO!!!.…And just like that everyone took a dive into the the water, flapping their arms with all the power they could produce.
But something weird happened, immediately Ade dived into the water, his whole body became paralyzed with pain,he began to scream for help as he was unable to save his life. He powered his right arm, thrusting it forward to build pressure, but it all came crashing down, as the pain he felt in his shoulder, paralyzed his arm, he countered again with his left arm, and it also came crashing down. He was now helplessly sinking into the water, which he always thought was made for him.
Jeremy noticed this, and in an instant, like a torpedo lunch at it's target, he power through the water, reaching Ade as fast as he could, saving him from drowning.
Ade was quickly rushed to the medics, but not before hearing coach commend Jeremy, on his quick response, agility and on the fact that he has new and better underwater speed record of 0:53 seconds as compared to Ade's to 0:55 seconds.
It's was obvious the coach have found his new star, as Ade was now old news. According to the doctor, Ade had a case of severe swimmer's shoulder with a notable case of
Rotator cuff impingement
Rotator cuff tears
Bicep tendonitis
Bursitis
Ade was frustrated, he had looked forward to the regional qualifiers for a long time,only for his time to finally arrive, and he was betrayed, by his body, his skills,and the water he so preciously loved.
Jeremy on the other hand, continued to represent the school, winning the qualifiers and advancing to the state level competition, and the final competition, which he won not only in style but also in swagger as he broke five out of seven of Ade's underwater record. He was now the new Aquaman of the school and Ade became the unofficial "has been".
And slowly the lights Dimmed on Ade, who would forever look back, and visualize this day as the saddest day in the history his athletic career. Replaying it over and over again in his head, wondering "what went wrong".
