The only thing interesting about midweek is the allure of the weekend that's closeby. You're stuck in between rounding up work for the week and dreaming about the rest that the weekend brings.
In all, it's been a beautiful week (I've experienced less traffic this week) and interesting topics in the community as well to go with it. This week it'll be about a sport I do not exactly like and the reasons why I feel that way about it.
I still remember the day just like yesterday, I was in junior high school and the class was physical health education. We were discussing different types of sports and then Squash came up.
The teacher tried to explain it, but it sounded funny to most of the class probably because it was the first time we were hearing of it and it wasn't as popular as the ones we knew like football and basketball.
It sounded funny back then and it still does today because I find it hard wrapping my head around a sport where people have to hit something on a wall at intervals.
For those who don't know about this sport, let me provide a little bit of background context.
SQUASH
Squash is a type of sport which is played between two or up to four people in front of a walled court.
The two opponents take turns hitting a kind of soft ball on the wall without letting the ball bounce more than once on the ground. A racket is used to hit the ball.
I guess I could technically say that the wall is like their football field, because that's where the ball has to hit. The aim is to hit the ball in way that your opponent won't be able to hit it on its return.
RACKET
It is the device used in used in sports such as badminton, tennis and squash. It is shaped in form of a handle which is connected to a round frame, this frame is also connected in the middle by stringing materials such as wires.
BALL
Squash is played by hitting a kind of soft ball.
I see the sports on the news sometimes and I'm sure the athletes who participate are professional who've trained very hard to get there, but it still looks funny to me that people have to spend time training all day at hitting a ball on a wall.
It sounds like one day a guy woke up and said to his friend
You know what, I can hit this ball on that wall better than you
And the friend replied
Alright you go train and I'll go train and tomorrow we'll see who does it better
And thus squash was born.
Over the years I've come across many sports that's not quite popular in my country, from sports like ice hockey(where una won see ice for 9ja) to but squash is the one sport i don't even have an idea how the points is counted or even how many points is needed to win.
There are millions of people who find the sports fun, but for the life of me I can't just take the sports seriously.
Imagine explaining to your old man in the village that you want to hit a ball on a wall for a living 馃槀馃槀, he'll probably load you to the nearest religious building for deliverance.
Thanks for reading this far, I hope y'all are enjoying a great week so far.
