Nothing beats good ol gist when you're in traffic. Everyone's got a problem they feel is more important than every other person's own.
It's funny now because it used to be people bragging about new cars, dope watches, bags, sneakers and fancy stuff but right now people are very serious with bragging about crazy stuff.
You'd be on a public bus and hear things like:
Man A: Heard a football player asked his fans to donate money to buy him a private jet. Those rich pr!ck$ who can't lock a ball properly.
Second guy chips in with something totally irrelevant
Man B: That's nothing, once had pimple as big as Burj khalifa and people were almost paying serious money to come see me.
Everyone is mad these days I tell you.
Another guy talks about the country harsh economy and everyone in the bus groans in agreement.
The economy is the one conversation everyone is happy to talk about, at least we can all collectively insult the president as the good patriotic citizens we are.
Traffic gist is so interesting that you'd sometimes be tempted to pass your busstop just to hear the end of a particularly interesting story that's taking another passenger forever to complete.
I once had this guy tell a story about his fight with a particularly difficult librarian. I already had issues with the librarian in the past, so I was forced to drop two busstops after my destination just to get the full gist.
There's lots of stuff going around and sometimes it helps simply leave the mind to wander as much as it can.
I was in traffic this evening, hungry and wishing I was home already. I didn't want to get anything from the numerous hawkers taking advantage of the traffic to quickly sell something (had a nasty experience with chips I bought and I promised myself never again).
We passed through dominoes pizza and as the aroma hit me, I wondered if there was an alternate universe out there where we had all super power but our weakness was tied to what should've been our favorite food.
The bad guys would probably catch me day in day out over my weakness with doughnuts. They'd probably get tired of catching me and simply build a pastry shop in front of my house to keep me busy.
It's silly but just to prove to myself that if I was stuck in that reality I wasn't going to be caught by the bad guys, I bought crackers biscuits on my way home instead of wafers Choco which I absolutely love.
