We all know that lying is no good but people lie all the time. It's like a second nature in mankind. Parents lie to their children to protect them they say, husbands to wives for many reasons, friends to friends not to hurt each others feelings, politicians to the population, this is called "politricks" my cousin says.
People even lie to themselves
“The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.” says Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
Now there is one person I know who never lies to others. I remember the first time I met him he said to me in a conversation "I never lie". And I was like "yeah right".
But through the years I realise he just can't do it. Not even "a white lie" to get out of trouble or to get what he wants. The other day he said to me "This does not make sense; people are not suppose to lie but to get what I want, I have to tell an untruth ? Well I rather not speak a word, ant too bad if things don't work the way I would like. I rather be honest with myself and others"
Don't think that my friend is perfect. He has other faults : he likes to proscratinate, he gets angry easily, is never on time ... but he never lies.
I admire him for that and at the same time I want to teach him "pretty little lies" because he is often sad when people don't understand him or belittle him.
But he keeps believing “Anything is better than lies and deceit!”
