Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Overcoming the Counterspell Ruleset
Hello Splinterlands Community, for this week I will share a certain ranked battle I had where I manage to overcome my opponent using magic damage dealing monsters despite having the Counterspell ruleset present in that match that puts me in a huge disadvantage.
The Battle
This is the ranked battle I had against an opponent where I managed to take down the enemy team using my magic damage monsters despite having the Counterspell ruleset active in this match alongside ranged damage monsters as well. I will share more details about this match, If you're interested on the outcome you can also watch the battle using the link below.

The Ruleset
Counterspell
There are two rulesets for this match, the first one is the Counterspell. This ruleset gives all the monsters on the battlefield the magic reflect ability. This ability causes all magic dealing monsters to take back damage whenever it strikes a unit. It makes magic damage based team composition on a big disadvantage.
Explosive Weaponry
The other ruleset for this match is Explosive Weaponry. It gives all the monsters in the battlefield the blast ability. This ability causes the attack of a monster to deal damage not only on its target enemy but also on the monster that is adjacent to that unit. This ruleset also applies the counterspell rule which makes the attack of a magic damage unit to take back damage multiple times depending on the number of enemy units affected by its attack.
My Lineup
Summoner : Delwyn Dragonscale
This is the summoner I used for this match. It is a dragon summoner that gives +1 magic damage to the whole team, my main source of damage for this match which are Djinn Oshannus, Nerissa Tridawn and Magi of Chaos benefits greatly with this magic damage buff. This summoner also allows me to use dragon element monsters in this match such as Djinn Chwala.
Monster 1 : Djinn Chwala
I placed my Djinn Chwala in the first position for this match. It is a very durable unit with a great amount of health and armor. It has the thorns ability which makes melee opponents to take back damage every time they land a successful hit to this monster. Since I used a dragon summoner for this match, I can deploy this monster in my team which is great not only as a frontline unit but also for being main source of damage for the team.
Monster 2 : Djinn Oshannus
I used my Djinn Oshannus for this match as one of main source of damage. It deals 3 magic damage to enemies with the buff coming from my summoner. It also has the void ability that reduces the magic damage this unit will receive from the enemies. The void ability also plays a big factor to reduce the effects of the Counterspell ruleset that is enhanced by the explosive weaponry rule, since every time the Djinn Oshannus deals damage to enemies it also takes damage back depending on how many opponents was affected by its magic damage attack.
Monster 3 : Nerissa Tridawn
I also used Nerissa Tridawn for this match as one of main magic damage source. It deals a massive 4 magic damage to opponents with the buff coming from my summoner, however it would take more damage back with the Counterspell ruleset and unlike the Djinn Oshannus, this unit does not have the void ability that reduces magic damage attack it would receive.
Monster 4 : Sea Stalker
I also used my Sea Stalker for this match, it deals a massive amount of ranged damage to opponents. It also has the snipe ability which makes this card target the monsters not currently in the first position. The camouflage ability also helps this card to be not targeted by enemy monsters since it only has a decent amount of health.
Monster 5 : Azmare Harpoonist
I also used gold foil Azmare Harpoonist in this match. It also deals great amount of ranged damage to opponents. It has the Snare ability which makes its attack capable of removing the flying ability of the targeted monster if ever the monster has this flying ability.
Monster 6 : Magi of Chaos
Lastly I placed the Magi of Chaos at the last position, it deals a good amount of magic damage to the enemies also with the buff coming from my summoner. It would also take back damage every time this unit targets an enemy unit because of the Counterspell ruleset. It also does not have the void ability that can reduce the damage from the Counterspell ruleset.
ROUND 1
The first round is very chaotic, I manage to take down the opponent's Living Lava however I suffer more loses in this round. My Magi of Chaos was taken down not by an enemy monster but from the damage coming from the Counterspell ruleset that was enhanced by the blast ability. I also lost my Azmare Harpoonist in this round which puts me on a difficult position.
ROUND 2
I manage to turn things around in the second round. I was able to take down almost the entire enemy team in this round thanks to the massive damages coming from Djinn Oshannus, Nerissa Tridawn and Sea Stalker. The blast ability which comes from the Explosive Weaponry ruleset also plays a big part in taking down the enemies quickly despite its drawback with the counterspell ruleset
ROUND 3
During the third and final round my Djinn Oshannus lands the killing blow to the opponent's Disintegrator to secure me this victory. My Djinn Oshannus and Nerissa Tridawn surprisingly survive the whole match despite receiving damage back from the Counterspell ruleset. The great amount of initial health on these two monsters was also helpful in order to survive the return damage from the counterspell ruleset in order to last longer in this match. The blast ability from the explosive weaponry ruleset serves as a two edged sword for my Oshannus, Nerissa Tridawn and Magi of Chaos as shown in this match.
