The average user on steemit may not know about the important role that the volunteer plays in validating our platform's transactions. The witnesses are volunteers who are diving in with their own funds to help support steemit.
Witness 'votes' are largely a legacy component, used to identify and reward the servers that are operating free of missed blocks. This system has suffered in the past few months, with several inactive servers still occupying the top 100 spots and most new users not understanding the system of voting.
This is where you can make a difference.
Scroll down past the list of the top 50 and type hatchi into the vote box.
IF this stuff doesn't interest you but you want to help, you can just add me as your proxy voter.
Go to the bottom of https://steemit.com/~witnesses and type my name into the SET PROXY box.
This will allow me to reward other volunteers for their work as witness as well as my followers.
You will need to use your password to complete this action, although you can change or revoke your votes at any time.
If you have a bunch of SP, your votes weighs more, so choose people who are promoting this platform to be a positive place!
For myself, I have decided to participate in the witness community for several reasons;
Witnesses get rewarded but really only after they can get past the dead accounts, otherwise the chances to validate a block transaction are very low. This is a big roadblock for new members to the witness community such as myself.
I have been thinking about how to add more value to steemit, and that means more money for you.
My proposal is simple, won't cost you a thing and you will get something from it.

What's that? Well it is just a way for me to keep track of and support those people who are supporting me with their witness vote.
We all have 30 witness votes and there is no penalty to using them.
