Dutifully, sleep crept up on me
Obliged to perform its natural function
After what felt like a century.
So with heavy eyelids
Under the weight of same sleep
I groped for my ballpoint
That had dropped
from my previous grip
I must pour my heart
On this ageing diary.
The upper eyelids finally gave in
As they embraced the lower
In a phantom kiss.
Hitherto I thought that,
If anyone was planted on this Earth
For the sole purpose of sleeping
That being is me.
Yes I nod off on the course of any business
While eating, writing or even smiling
Haha
But last night, the jinx got broken
With sleep vacated eyes I thought.
Pensively!
The rift between us
Keeps yawning the more
And I can not help but think
Wishfully with wistful eyes
Of the magical moments
Of days of yore
When love and infatuation
Cohabited with glee
'He was just a friend'
You said, last time
I met both of you
With hands cupped
But with each passing day
It picks my heart with a needle
That I have lost you.
