Have you, or anyone you know, ever turned a hobby into a business or opportunity to make a few dollars on the side. Tell us what it was and how the process went from hobby to income; the challenges, work-arounds and successes.
Answering the question asked on #Theweekend which is the above I would love to say I have turned my hobby into business to make cash🙂and I’m still making some cash through it.

I get pleasure in making ladies look more beautiful, by getting their makeup done. I usually get people’s makeup done for free because I enjoyed doing it. In school I used to get my all my friends makeup done and end up going to any event looking untidy.
I started makeup 2017 and I started getting an income 2021.
2021 after graduation from school I needed to earn so I could fend for myself but no good source of income, I searched for jobs none was coming in. So I thought of a different means other from working for someone and decided to train more on my makeup skills.
I trained further on my makeup skills for two months.
First trial while with my apprentice.
An attempt on my own while training.
After training I started searching for places to get a makeup spot, it was not easy but I got one and I was told I would be paying #5000 ($8.8) every weekend. Which is on the high side considering the fact I’m just starting my makeup business journey, but I still took the offer because getting a spot is difficult.
After getting a spot I did fliers and banners to advertise my business.
After putting up my banner, I had my first customer.
Every since I started after setting up my banner I have been having different customers, every weekend I do more makeup than during the week. My makeup business has been a success so far, because I have been making enough income to cover my transportation to work and also cover for the weekly pay.
But I have been facing a challenge for two weeks now. The lady who owns the shop which I’m renting the spot I use for my makeup business has added electricity bill to my weekly bill, she is expecting me to start paying her an extra charge of #1000 ($1.7) which I can’t afford to pay because I’m not making enough for that. I have been thinking of what to do, although I have told her that’s too high for me to pay weekly and she has not responded after that conversation. I have been thinking what I would do next if she decides that I must give her that electricity bill, because she is being greedy #5000 is enough for a spot and also cover for the electricity bill but she still wants an extra cash. Thoughts came to me to get another spot but that won’t be easy, I’m trying to work on that so that if she insists on me giving her extra cash, I will then leave her spot.
Yesterday I had a returning customer and she even booked again for next week Saturday because she has been loving her makeup done by me.
Had this beautiful client also.
I have never regretted turning my hobby into my business, because it is something I love doing so earning from it gives me more joy and happiness. When we love what we do even when there is a challenge we pass it without quitting, because it’s what you love doing.
