Today I decided to check out an area and spots suited to observe and taking pictures of the northern light. The area I had in mind is peninsula in the fjord where I live. On the peninsula there are several hills. The goal was the highest of them. The northern light is most often towards the northeast on the sky. If i could find a good spot there should give a great view inward and out the fjord in a good direction for framing pictures.
Out we go, Nero and I. It was windy and cloudy, but I had a nice walk on snowshoes up to the highest point.
We observed lots of tracks from moose on the way up. Some was from the last days. Here started Nero to bark, probably he sniffed something interesting. I could not see any moose, but it was obvious they was in the area.
I liked this tree with a little "personality" and had to take a picture with the cloudy sky and landscape in the background.
Nero saw my interest in that direction with the camera, of course he had to investigate what it could be :-).
When taking pictures of the northern light it is of course dark. If you beforehand have spots suited for observing and also have a plan for composing and framing pictures you don't have to stress in the dark where to place the camera. I try to imagine the picture with something in the foreground and not only take picture of the sky with northern light.

View out the fjord toward Narvik city. I found a couple of spots with relatively good view for observing northern light. There where quite much trees which limited the view though. I saw another hill with less forest on the top as I have to check out another time. Anyway it is always fun to be out "hunting" for motives in fresh air. Today I also got some hours exercise.
