Hello Everyone! It's another Monday morning and I hope this week turns out to be the best for everyone of us.
I'm quite sure you aware of all I do every Mondays. Anyways, for newbies just visiting my blog for the first time, every Mondays is all about #MondayMotivation where I share great inspiring content that will add more value to your life which can also increase your level of productivity and success.
Today we'll actually be discussing about a very interesting topic and this is really something most of us were once doing back then and there are definitely some people still doing this bad habit. Are you astonished i said bad habit? Yes! It is definitely a bad habit 😊.
What is This Bad Habit I'm Gonna Be Discussing About?*
A great man once said "never do tomorrow what you can do today". I'm quite sure you've actually gotten the scope of the context and this bad habit I'm gonna be discussing about is known as Procrastination.
We can define the word procrastination in so many different ways but a layman will define procrastination as the act of postponing any activity you can do today for another. There may actually be nothing wrong with procrastinating sometimes depending on the condition at hand but the sad reality is that if it becomes a consistent habit in your life, then there's definitely something wrong.
There are actually times whereby some people may procrastinate due to their busy or tight schedule making them have no time to do what intended to do. I think these set of people are really very damn busy and they tend to forget what they plan on doing so easily. They really don't have that time and some can't really find it very easy to fix in any free time to accomplish their task for the day making them shift it to another day and some may then accomplish the task on the prescribed day or they ignore again depending on how determined the person is.
There are also some people who don't really have something productive doing per say but they tend to be occupied by irrelevant activities keeping them busy to accomplish important tasks or goals and they tend to lie under the shade of being busy by procrastinating important activities till their next day becomes another next day.
The fact is that if most of the successful people we know today had the habit of excessive procrastination, most of them wouldn't have attained success today because the more you procrastinate, the more you shift your time of success.
A Personal Experience
If you are really following my write up from the beginning of this post, I made it clear that most of us do procrastinate sometimes depending on the condition at hand. The fact is that I've actually been in the procrastination train and I'm still part of this train (unlike before). I'll be sharing my experience with you about how I would have been affected by the habit of procrastination if I wasn't careful.
As a final year student, there's this particular final project topic every student schooling in African tertiary institution must take part in. I was given a project topic and a project supervisor even though the project topic looks a bit ambiguous to me but it involves a lot of experiments and time to be able to generate experimental data for proper data analysis. During this period, the government instructed that every schools should be locked down due to the Coronavirus pandemic until further notice.
The lockdown of schools actually took a longer period of time and some students saw this as an opportunity to develop themselves academically and financially. Some students also made use of that opportunity to tackle their project topic pending the time schools will resume.
It was actually a different case for me because I was just enjoying the great holiday with delicious foods and drinks. I never even thought about any self development not to talk about working on my project for the time being. I was just enjoying different fried chicken, rice, movies, games and lovely juice.
On a Saturday morning, I received some whatsApp messages from my friends and project supervisor asking me about what I've actually achieved during the holidays and how has been my project work so far? I was actually speechless and I began to develop some sense of reasoning due to the question they asked.
The truth is that I actually planned on achieving some specific goals during the holiday but the I got blind folded by the enjoyment and irrelevant activities I engaged myself in back then making me think there's still time to achieve my goals and more importantly completing my project work but the sad truth is that I was actually procrastinating and I wasn't able to achieve any of these not until when I took that bold step to ward off the habit of procrastination.
Guess What
I was able to accomplish some of my goals when it comes to self development and learning. I was able to develop myself in some aspect and I was also able to learn lot of things that added greater value to my life. As for my final year project, I should be done with that probably before this year runs out (by God's grace) which implies that I'll soon be a graduate 😊.
I couldn't just imagine how I'll be feeling right now if I hadn't stopped the habit of procrastination and who knows where I would have been now if I had started taking my goals seriously without procrastinating.
In Summary and Conclusion
I'm very sure there are also lot of people out there who also love doing what they can do today for another day till the other day won't come. There is just limited time to achieve lot of goals and accomplishments, never allow the habit of procrastination ruin your career.
If you've been planning to learn a new skill or learning something new, start learning and stop waiting for tomorrow to come. Also, if you've been planning to accomplish a specific task or goal, today is the best time to make it happen if you have the time and resources. Never procrastinate and always do your best to achieve your goals no matter what.
