June is my favorite month of the year because I just love celebrating my two sons as their birthdays are 18 days apart!

My firstborn turns 8 today and he has been over the moon over it! He anticipated this day for a long time. Maybe he too loves celebrating birthday. I think it is a healthy thing to do, celebrating a child every year he grows older. So happen, my firstborn is the type like me who loves celebrations. On this day, he gets all the attention and it is actually good for a child's well being, in my opinion because in this world, we may have neglected the need of attention when we are growing up. It builds a sense of healthy significance and it helps the child feel important. I felt when I was young, I sort of struggled a lot with this until it was hard for me to believe I was important when I grew up. I mean each child may need to develop and fulfill this need differently, based on how and who the child is. So my method may not apply to all but the point is it is according to what matters to the child.

So I try my best to provide this part for my sons, making them feel they are worth celebrating and I will do what it takes, within my ability to make it meaningful for them. My firstborn has the tendency to look back at these memories so I figured these meant huge deals to him.

The Preparation

I involved the birthday boy more in his birthday celebration planning this year. We started baking yesterday and we managed to come out with 27 chocolate cupcakes for those he invited. He wrote down his guest list, handled out invitation papers to them, think of activities to be done and also packed up the gift packs. He did an awesome job participating with me this time, not just waiting for the magic to happen hahah.

The Day!

Last night before he slept, he asked me to remind the mothers of his friends to check the invitations. Haha. Good one! Today we arrived at the park at about 9am. The weather was fine, so thank God for that!

I was a bit blur but my friends helped to carry things for me and set up the place with me. Thank God for them!

Here is the end product of the cake we made together! My friend helped arranged into the shape of the Number 8.

Birthday boy took photos with the food and gifts and decorations.

My family with the birthday boy!

His grandparents with the birthday boy!

His uncle and aunt and cousins together with the birthday boy!

His friends who came to celebrate him.

And all of us together! Thank you all for your presence, presents and help!

Birthday boy blew off his birthday candle!

Enjoying some cupcakes.

The Fun Play

Friends taking photo with the birthday boy.

There were bubble play. Some children enjoyed making the bubbles, while some enjoying popping them! Best combo!

Some children and adults had fun with a portable football goal my brother got for my boys. Easy to set up and easy to be kept foldable in a bag, love it!

Then there was the scavenger hunt! My son went on a very fun scavenger hunt with his dad before, walking in our neighbourhood. This time round, he did a list for his friends. My nephews and my two sons were very serious about it that they went around searching for every single thing on the list!

Here is me signing of their paper as an acknowledgement to their participation. Hahaha! I forgot to prepare rewards for those who persevere and finish it.

Some of them were happily playing with a cat they found.

Some were playing basketball.

The "Behind-the-scenes".

My youngest was happily collecting "pinecones".

Lunch Time at McDonald's!

My birthday son loves McDonald's so we went as a big group to the neareat McDonald's. It is newly opened and it is very clean. The only problem was the service and how long the wait was and also the mistakes they made. But we were fine and patient with it so it was okay.

Our Gift From God

My firstborn came home really happy and delighted. He asked his dad and everyone if they enjoyed themselves. He told me it is his best day ever. I am so glad to know he likes how it went.

This son always holds a special place in my heart because he is my very very faithful loyal companion since he was in my womb. I feel he could understand me since he was in me. He is one who loves to stay back at the comfort of his home yet he accompanies me out whenever I asked him to. He is one who is more gentle in the mannerism unless he is playing games hahhaa. He is a very careful boy and doesn't prefer taking risks. This year I see him stepping out more into taking steps to face many things that he might have feared. He comforts me in many ways I have never expected him to and he speaks very consoling words to my soul. He is a sensitive person. I love to see him grow more and more in his character. He pushes himself to do hard things even when it is not something he naturally prefers. He loves God and he speaks to Him about many things. He speaks about God, which is something I love to hear from him, with no judgement. He is a wonder and truly a gem to me. He makes understand a little why God calls us friends when we are His children. He likes to be our friend, because I like to be friend with my son too.

Before sleep tonight, I prayed for him with his brother. Blessing him with new grace for a new year and thanking Jesus for such a wonderful gift entrusted to us. My Levi, my gift from God who unites us as one. We love you, son and friend ❤️
