Mid Autumn Festival or the Lantern Festival is happening tomorrow and we had an early celebration, just among us!

Mid-Autumn or 中秋节happens on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. As Malaysian Chinese, we do celebrate it to a certain extent, especially in a small reunion with family.

I remember I worked so hard last year when I was in the mood to bake homemade mooncakes for my family and friends. This year, I did not do that so our mooncakes supply is a bit limited and my sons love mooncakes!

Nevertheless, some friends gave us so tonight I served the boys and husband some too.

I also thought it would be fun to just spread a mat at our balcony to watch the fullmoon. My youngest was of course the most thrilled one with this idea. He even ate his dinner at the balcony, exclaiming,"This is a great dinner!" Hahahaha!

I started off with very minimalistic things, just a table, with some lanterns, mooncakes, a tea set and a mini game. Of course the youngest won't be satisfied with that so he brought out all his different sizes of balls representing his different planets of the solar system.

Just look at how delighted he was!

We observed that the moon was full but sometimes it was hidden behind some clouds, so it went "missing".

The youngest was too excited to pour "tea" to drink and insisted to serve his dad some too. He started this practice when he was 2 years old, also during mid autumn festival when he realized he could do it. Now he has gotten even better at it. Well, I replaced the tea with just plain water while I had real peppermint tea.

After my husband and firstborn were free to join us, we had mooncakes and chit chatted a bit.

After they were like done with this balcony moon observation and mooncakes, they went in the house while I stayed a while in quietness, just me and the moon and my tea. That was a short bliss!

Also, the other day, my sons and I went to csrry lanterns around downstairs of my apartment. The boys were happy to play with the lanterns eventhough it was just a short while as we needed to watch out for mosquitoes.

It's amazing to see how light shines the brightest in the darkest places!

Then we continued projecting the lanterns at home onto the ceiling when my youngest discovered this new way of playing too. He said those were stars and planets of the solar system as he is really very into the solar system now.

This was simple but plain fun! Tomorrow we will celebrate another round with my in laws and family on the exact day. Happy Mid-Autumn to everyone who is celebrating!!! Enjoy the mooncakes!
