Hortensia is an amazingly beautiful and diverse shrub. In horticulture hydrangeas are valued for a variety of forms of inflorescences, an extensive palette of flowers, large curly leaves, an interesting bark, as well as for unpretentiousness and abundant flowering. An unusually spectacular sight of hydrangeas is presented in the autumn, when on one plant you can simultaneously see buds, seed heads and leaves of different colors.
The name hydrangea was given in honor of the Princess Hortense - the sister of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire Carl Heinrich Nassau-Siegen. The botanical name of the bush - hydrangea - is known only to specialists. Meanwhile, in Greek, it means "a vessel with water" and speaks of a very important quality of the plant - it is very fond of moisture.
