Every few months I clean the nesting boxes for the chickens. I say clean, but it is more like refreshing the wood chips because the hens tend to scratch inside the box and remove the wood chips. There is never any chicken poop to clean out because I don’t let the hens roost in the boxes.
It is pretty easy. I remove the box and dump the contents out and clean the nesting pad. I have found that a nesting pad helps reduce the frequency of broken eggs.
I replace the nesting pad and add wood chips. I use hickory chips which I get from the local handle factory.
I then add a little DE and a handful of wood ash to control any mites or ticks which could be present.
I put the box back in place and it is ready for the next bird.
Have a great day! Every comment is up-voted and thanks for your up-vote, Tim and Joann
