When Sheikh Ali Tantawi, may Allah have mercy on him, was assigned to teach literature in Iraq, he went around Baghdad and traveled a lot on foot. He reached the class in the same disheveled condition. When the teacher saw it, he thought it was a student. Said: Hey donkey! Where were you, why did you arrive late to the lecture?
Sheikh apologized and went and sat with the students.
The teacher said to the students: Writer Kabir Ali Tantawi is coming to teach you, don't disrespect me in front of him. Then they started asking him questions about literature and the Sheikh kept answering like a student.
The teacher asked him: Can you compare Al-Bahtari and Abu Tama (two great poets)?
The Shaykh made a great speech on it; The teacher said: Well, you seem to be a worthy student; what is your name
Sheikh said: Ali Tantawi!!
Hearing this, the teacher fainted. Shaykh says: When will we finally learn that we should not form any opinion by looking at people's appearance?!
