Bitcoin has just been accepted as an payment option at Pick 'n Pay.
Pick n Pay is the second largest supermarket chain store in South Africa, established in 1967. It can also be found in other regions of southern Africa, such as Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Namibia as well as Mauritius and had planned to open in Malawi but has yet to do so. The founder of the chain was Jack Goldin, he was born in Obeliai Lithuania but moved to South Africa when the Nazis invaded his town.
This is bigger than just buying pizza with bitcoin : Year on year Pick N Pay Stores Ltd grew revenues 6.96% from 72.45bn to 77.49bn while net income improved 16.72% from 1.07bn to 1.24bn.
South Africa will become one of the leaders in taking on bitcoin as a form off payment. South African exchange is called Luna and currently the only exchange in South Africa and as we all can guess will soon change.
