FIFA World Cup, what a tournament. We got into the round of 32 since yesterday. This is the World Cup with the most teams ever. A total of 48 teams and still in this round we see many teams that probably wouldn't be around if we had the round of 16, such as the match Egypt X Australia. But I got so high emotions in these first two days. First watching Canada matchyesterday and the second watching the Brazil match today. Now I can breathe a bit until next weekend when the Round of 16 starts.
Yesterday was a rainy day here. And my wife decided to book a playdate at the YMCA so the kids could swim a bit at the time of the game. It was 1 pm local time when she booked the game. She got late, and we had lunch during this time, so I could basically hear the first half of the game and watch it when there was a big moment: Canada was playing better, and South Africa was just behind. I was expecting a more balanced match with more attacks from South Africa. Well, during the second half we went to the YMCA, and I just stayed in front of a big TV that they had in the entrance area, so I just stayed there until the end of the match.
In the second half, Canada reduced the pace, and it only improved when Alphonso Davies finally entered. The Canadian best player was injured since the semi-finals of his team, Bayern Munich. He entered and proved that he has skills that no other Canadian player still has. And the prize came when we thought that we were going to overtime. During injury time, Stephen Eustaquio just hit a nice shot from outside the Penalty box. I screamed with two other people watching the game there. Well, soccer(football ) isn't a popular sport here.
This had an emotion that I didn't expect. It was 11 am when the game started, and I was working in person. I started watching the game on my phone, but I had a meeting at 11:30. So I watched up to the first hydration break. Brazil was controlling the game, and Japan was more defensive. However, during my meeting, Japan scored a goal after a bad pass by Paqueta. I could come back for the second half, and it was amazing. First, the crossing from Gabriel Magalhaes to Casemiro, heading and scoring the goal to tie the score. And when we again thought that the game was going to overtime, during the injury time, Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal forward, scored a nice goal, taking Brazil to the next round.
Saturday, Canada will face the winner between Morocco and the Netherlands. To be frank, I expect that Canada won't have enough power to beat any of them, but who knows, right? But Brazil will face on Sunday the winner of Norway and Ivory Coast on Sunday, which we will probably see Norway of Haaland there. That would be a great game, and I hope that Brazil can win this game. Anyways it took some time to get some feelings with this World Cup since the group stages were not full of good emotions.
Então, basicamente, consegui ouvir o primeiro tempo do jogo e assistir aos momentos decisivos: o Canadá estava jogando melhor e a África do Sul estava logo atrás.
