Night on the beach
During my visit to Barcelona a few weeks ago I was welcomed by Xiao Yang, a Chinese photographer with a special taste for brutalist architecture.
We chose to go out at night and explore the local sights. The one chosen was the Les Tres Xemeneies. The 3 Chimneys.
It's an old power plant that seems no longer in operation but serves as a nice photo subject for people like us.
Bei meinem letzten Besuch in Barcelona vhab ich mich mit Xiao Yang getroffen, einer chinesischen Fotografin mit besonderer Vorliebe für brutalistische Architektur. Wir entschieden uns, nachts fotografieren zugehen und die lokalen "Sehenswürdigkeiten" zu erkunden. Auf dem Plan stand dann Les Tres Xemeneies. Die 3 Schornsteine.
Es ist ein altes Kraftwerk, das scheinbar nicht mehr in Betrieb ist, aber Leuten wie uns als nettes Fotomotiv dient..
What were the settings?
What you see is a featured Camera Rotation Light Painting is a single 41-second exposure time photograph. The camera was always set to ISO 500 and the Lens to F8.
In order to see something of the graffiti on the walls in the foreground, I lit it up on each side of the rotation. It required two steps with one rotation of 180°.

Um such was von den Graffitis an den Wänden im Vordergrund zu sehen, habe ich es auf jeder Seite der Rotation auch den Vordergrund beleuchtet. Alles in zwei Schritten mit einer Drehung von 180°.
Camera Rotation and Reflection?
The next challenge was to combine it with a reflection. Since it was raining the days before we found a couple of really cool puddles of water, perfectly waiting for us to use them for our purposes.

That makes it 12 chimneys 😎
Die nächste Herausforderung war dann, eine Reflexion mit ins spiel zu bringen. Da es die Tage zuvor geregnet hatte, fanden wir ein paar wirklich coole Wasserpfützen, die perfekt darauf warteten, von uns für unsere Zwecke genutzt zu werden.

The last image is a bit of an experiment trying to fit in I had to tilt the powerplant an angle. It does work as a composition as well. It was one of the first shots of the night which you can see on the remains of the blue hour. The sky has still a nice blue tint.
Das letzte Bild ist ein kleines Experiment, bei dem ich versuchte, Kraftwerk ins Bild einzupassen, dafür musste ich es ordentlich kippen. Tatsächlich war eine der ersten Aufnahmen der Nacht, was man am Rest der blauen Stunde sehen kann. Der Himmel hat noch einen kleinen Blaustich.
As you see here the powerplant is right by the beach. Almost a twisted romantic experience ;-)
At least for architecture and photography lovers.
Camera Rotation what?
As I described also in my last post about Camera Rotation it is just what you think. During the exposure, the camera is being turned in a few angles and while doing so I also light up the scene. Everything together and in one exposure without any trickery.
Kamera Rotation Light Painting?
Wie schon in meinem letzten Post beschrieben ist eine Kamera Rotation genau was der Name schon beschreibt. Die Kamera wird während der Belichtung gedreht und dabei wird die Scene eingeleuchtet.
