Playing with the magnetic beach sand.

Ok here is something different. Using my Macro lens again for Light Painting.

A few years back we visited some friends in California. One of my personal highlights occurred pretty much on the last day of the trip. With some friends, we ended up on the beach of Pacifica, just south of San Fransisco. Together with my friend Aza, I collected some fero magnetic sand from the beach where he used to grow up. For me, that's so magical and felt again like a little kid. Well, today a few things came together, and here are some light painting experiments that I never got to do untl now. Finally we used the sand for something.

I found this mirror glass sitting right in front of me in a room I was staying in for a week doing home office from abroad. Every night I thought I gonna do something with it. The sand came to mind and I got out the gear and started playing. Here I share some results of it. Also testing the Video function.

Set Up

The aim was to make the particles stand up and create interesting shapes and textures. For that, the sand was on the top of the glass and then I would move the magnets underneath the glass to get the shapes. Then I arranged different colored flashlights around the setup and observed what looks cool. So I placed the colors at a low angle right on the glass as well.

Light Painting Results

Playing with different colors and different vantage points.

These Light Painting shots are technically very simplistic only a few seconds long single exposure at ISO 100 and usually with a Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro lens set to F22. I cast the lights always at a super low angle light from all directions.

Man, I totally got sucked into this rabbit hole for a few hours. I kept changing the angle for the light and pretty much anything looked so cool. It felt like thois Kaleidoskope images, You can not get enough of all the combination possible.

I think there is more and I guess we can say I will play with this again .. that's for sure!

What do you think? Please tell me which color combination you like the most.

I hope you found these images inspirational. If you have more questions please do not hesitate. I am happy to share my knowledge.

If you think this is Spam, why did you read this far, and why the fuck bother you? Move on from your self-righteous mind state and bury yourself. Don't bother about what others may find interesting. Just stay in your bubble and ...

Cheer Up, Guys!
