Did you know I have bees on the Gubba Homestead?
That's right not one but two hives which I got a few months ago. I have a video of me unboxing them and introducing them to their new home which you can watch at Homestead Beekeeping Video Beekeeping has become one of my favorite things to do on the homestead. For the most part they thrive on their own. With all the flowers and trees in bloom they have been enjoying an abundance of pollen to collect and have built their homes well.
Both hives are now two cells tall and I added a third recently for them to move up into. So far they haven't and I'm a little disappointed as that 3rd tier will be the honey I get to collect and keep for myself. I wont be touching the other two as I want to be sure they are as well prepared as possible for the winter months being they are now in a new home.
Beekeeping is a great hobbies to take up and as long as it's allowed in your area and you're not allergic to them I highly encourage you to get a hive and take care of one yourself. It's peaceful and a great way to just bring everything to live around your home.
The pictures you see are from when I first got the hive and then when I did my first inspection of the hives. This first inspection is to just check on the hive and see if there's anything they need from me in order to help their move. A little sugar water on the side is all they needed which is a quick base for them for food as they discover the area. The queen is looking healthy and all the workers are buzzing away. One even landed on me and paid me a little visit. So far no stings! I'm not sure what it is but I feel so peaceful and safe around them and it's one of my favorite areas to visit on the homestead.
