Every homestead has its productive plants—vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees—but I also believe there's room for beauty.
Today I took a few moments to appreciate these vibrant red flowers blooming beside the garden. Their bright colors stand out beautifully against the lush green leaves and remind me that a homestead is more than just a place to grow food. It's a place to enjoy nature, find peace, and reconnect with the simple things in life.
These flowering shrubs also attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators that help keep the garden healthy. While they may not end up on the dinner table, they contribute to a thriving ecosystem that supports everything else growing around them.
As I walked through the yard this morning, the sunlight shining on the flowers created a scene worth capturing. Moments like these remind me why I enjoy gardening and homesteading so much. Every season brings something new to appreciate.
Do you grow ornamental flowers around your vegetable garden or homestead? I'd love to hear which ones brighten your space.
