L'Oeuf Electrique was made in 1942 by french designer Paul Arzens. Material used are aluminium and plexiglass (a novelty at the time) and performances were decent for an electric car ( 80 km/h top speed / 100 km autonomy / 300 kg batteries included) and even for a car of 1942. I can't understand something similar wasn't more developped for small city cars today.
