Russia: The hosts have secured maximum points from their first two games in Group A, against Saudi Arabia and Egypt. They will play out their last game against Uruguay with not much at stake, as they are already booked for the knockout stage or the competition. They are the only European contenders in Group A.
Portugal: 3 goals from Christiano Ronaldo were all that was needed to earn a draw against Spain in Group B. Another 1 from the Real Madrid playmaker ended Morocco's hopes of advancement to the round of 16. Due to Spain's 1-0 win over Iran, Portugal are as good as in the knockout stage. Only a loss for both European giants in their final games of the group stage can be consequential to their qualification for the second round.
Portugal have a high chance of qualification for the knockout stage.
Spain: managed to grind out a 1-0 win against Iran to put themselves on top of the group. A 54th minute Diego Costa strike made it count. La Furia Roja will be seeking a draw or an outright win against the Moroccans in their final group game.
Denmark: will be seeking to avoid a loss against France in their last Group C game of the tournament. Their 1-0 win over Peru and the 1-1 draw with Australia leaves them in 2nd position on the group table behind group leaders, France. A draw is enough to see them through the group stage.
France: 6 points, 2 games gone, that has been the story for the group leaders in Group C. A hard-fought 2-1 win over Australia and a lone goal in the 34th minute by Mbappé has seen the European big guns book a qualification ticket for the knockout stages in Russia 2018. The last game against their European groupmates, Belgium will be inconsequential to their success in the group.
Iceland and Croatia, the Group D representatives of the UEFA, have both secured points from their games. The Croats have picked up all 6 points in both games and a spot in the knockout stage of the tournament. They came out firing in both halves of their opener against Nigeria to end up with a 2-0 win. A 2nd half riot of goals saw them come out 3-0 winners over Argentina. A last encounter with their European counterparts, Iceland, will not hamper them on their way through the group phase. Only a Nigerian 5-0 win over Argentina can make the qualify 2nd place, should they lose against Iceland.
Iceland: Having lost to the West African giants by an Ahmed Musa double in 2nd half, they will be going all out to win their last group game against Croatia. Should they win, they will be needing Nigeria to lose or draw their last game, as a draw guarantees them a spot if they, themselves, win with a 2-goal margin against their European counterparts. A Nigerian loss in the last game against Argentina means that even a 1-goal win over Croatia would do. But, only a win would do!
Switzerland and Serbia: Switzerland has booked a place in the knockout stage except, they lose their last group game against Costa Rica and Serbia irks out 3 points againts Brazil. Should such a defeat be up to 2 or more goals, even a Serbian draw could see their European groupmates take their place in the round of 16 from Group E.
Germany and Sweden: One of the two footballing nations will advance to the second round since South Korea lost their first two games against Sweden and Mexico subsequently, 0-1 and 1-2 respectively. But, Mexico's perfect start means they have booked a ticket to the knockout stage with 6 points, regardless of the Swedish duel. This leaves Sweden hoping for a poor result for their European neighbors against South Korea, while they try to go all out to win (as all last fixtures in the groups are played concurrently). Germany are in the same position and will also be hoping for a better outcome than Sweden, in their final group game of the tournament.
Belgium and England: are both in the same group, Group G, with Tunisia and Panama. Les Diables Rouges have played 2 games already and won them both. A 6-goal excellent start saw them beat Panama with a resounding 3-0 scoreline and send Tunisia packing in a thrilling 5-2 encounter.
England: started the early exit for the North Africans with a 91st minute winner from Harry Kane. A Harry Kane hat-trick in a 6-1 mauling of Panama booked them a ticket in the knockout stage. Their last encounter in the group stage will see them compete for top spot on the table with their European groupmates, Belgium, with a view to booking a spot against an easier opposition.
