Goodbye
According to Merriam-Webster it is define as: a concluding remark or gesture at parting – often used interjectionally. It is mentioned a study that a form of good-bye has been spoken since the sixteenth century. It comes from godbwye, which is a contraction of “God be with ye.” The phrase was influenced by good day and good evening.
In Spanish, goodbye is translated to “adios” which a contraction of “a” meaning “to” and “Dios” meaning “God”. Does it means that whenever say goodbye to someone when we part ways that we give them a blessing?
In a country that 86% of the population is catholic and schools are required a theology class. A phrase “May God be with you. . .” is commonly mention by our parents, aunties or even priest from a church that we go but goodbye is not often as good as goodbye means. More likely, I mentioned goodbyes in the most heartbreaking way when my father passed in a heart attack, every time my mother is in the airport because she is living another, every time a closest friend need to go another country because they offer a better compensation and list goes on. I hate saying goodbye cause probably the next day I’ll be lonely knowing I don’t a father anymore, my mother is too far away, and my friend would probably felt the loneliness of being alone in a country she wasn’t been before.
