hELLO, hIVERS! Hello Philippines, This is 
I slip out of the house in the soft pink light of dawn, on my Wednesday morning walk along the new Davao City Coastal Road. Even from my quiet neighborhood, I can spot the dark outline of Mt. Apo far across the bay against the rosy sky. The water below is calm, reflecting gold and lavender hues of sunrise. A gentle sea breeze cools my face, and I feel grateful for how the city has added this scenic route. The road here is wide and smooth, painted with fresh white lines and flanked by palm trees gently swaying in the morning breeze.
I share this peaceful path with a stream of fellow morning walkers. Joggers nod as they pass by in the opposite lane, and a couple of cyclists in bright jerseys eagerly speed past on the dedicated bike lane. By design, the DPWH notes the highway includes a bicycle lane and sidewalk, which I’m thankful for. To my left, I see the sandy Talomo Beach along the bay. A few fishermen begin their day near the water’s edge, tending to nets and boats from last night’s catch. We greet each other with friendly smiles. One report noted the Bago Aplaya–Talomo section “has been attracting a huge crowd” of walkers and bikers, and I see how true it is.
This gentle walk always calms my mind before a very busy school day. The rhythm of my footsteps and the sound of distant waves make me feel grounded. I draw in a deep breath of salty air and imagine carrying the day’s first golden light with me. As I start home toward my house, I feel ready and inspired: the road has given me some of its sunrise “energy and peace” to face my classes with a smile.
