Honoring death and celebrating life

Certain circumstances in life stigmatize the meaning of days, things, words, gestures. It is these circumstances, adverse or favorable, that are associated with a particular emotion that seems to mark a milestone of perpetuity.

In the past, every October 4th was a date that could mean for me the celebration of life, since it is the birthday of one of my beloved great aunts, also one of my cousins, and even that of a good friend. However, 6 years ago, that day went from being multicolored to being tinged with mourning for the death of my father; since then, year after year I have been overwhelmed by the pain of loss, a natural and inevitable feeling that comes from the soul.

That day, which commemorated one more year of my father's death, I voluntarily decided not to cry, and not because I do not grieve his absence or because I do not miss him, but because I felt that the time had come to no longer tarnish the memories with tears, on the contrary, I felt it was appropriate to relive them in the smiles that he gave me in life.

My dad was a very happy man, cheerful, a poet, he always celebrated his life, and he did it without any half measures, he celebrated it in a big way while he could. So I think he would want that date to stop being a sad day, to be the day he had the opportunity to abandon the pain and suffering caused by the disease he suffered. I would like to think that on that October 4, 2016, his spirit gained peace and a new beginning on a plane of perpetual light.

So I decided not to mourn him, I decided to think of him as a smiling, smiling and happy man...unlike in previous years, I decided not to curl up in pain anymore, even though his death still hurts me. It was beautiful to evoke such beautiful memories...to heal, forgive and move on.

Transformando emociones

Transforming emotions

I know that not everyone can understand my decision, although I sincerely do not care about the opinions of others in this regard, because it is my healing process, only I know what it means and what it represents to me.

My dad is no longer here, his spirit has transcended, and as much as it grieves to say goodbye, it is better to accept that he is now in a better place. But, those who are here, are those other beings that are still around me, people who are still around; for example, those who had a birthday that day and who for 6 years I left on pause while I was going through the mourning, to them (as to many others) fortunately I still have the opportunity to congratulate them, call them, send them a message, dedicate a post to them. While I believe that death deserves to be commemorated with respect, I believe that life should be celebrated with joy.

Life is a privileged gift that, like all good things, lasts only a short time; therefore, it is worthwhile to show affection while we have the opportunity, because afterwards we are only confronted with regrets and/or laments of what could have been, together with a feeling of guilt that is very difficult to get out of our heart. I say this with full knowledge of the facts, precisely for this reason I do not want to make the same mistakes again...it is time to transform emotions.

This does not mean that it will stop hurting, it is just that I want to focus on what can still be, to dedicate my energies to give value to the present, aiming at the future, honoring the past, but without clinging to it.
