Those who know me know that I love animals, to the point that I almost had a zoo at home: dogs, rabbits, monkeys, macaws, fish...and even tuqueques if they count as pets hahaha.
For me, and for my family, because that is how we have taught our children, pets are members of our family. We must care for them, love them, protect them, and treat them with the same love and respect as we would human beings. Some people fail to understand the sublime and sacred bond of love that is born between a human and a pet. It is a bond of affection that transcends race, gender, and color...it is pure, sincere, genuine love.
When we left Venezuela we had to say goodbye to our loved ones, and among them, our pets. Although I know they are well cared for, we still miss them very much, as I am sure they miss us too. As someone who leaves a child on vacation with grandma, before coming we made sure to give all the instructions for the care of Gru, Pepe, and Paul. That Pepe calls "daddy" when he is hungry, and that he prefers a piece of arepa to a piece of watermelon. That Paul doesn't like to get his hands dirty, and that even though he's a monkey he doesn't eat bananas. And that Gru, when he bends his head down, it's because he wants to be petted...and so on, little details that make them unique and unrepeatable.
No pet replaces another, ever. That feeling remains intact forever. What usually happens is that the energy and vitality of a new pet brings back your enthusiasm, while captivating you with its tenderness and good vibes. That is precisely what is happening to us right now with Buddy, my doggy nephew.

Ninguna mascota reemplaza a otra, nunca.
Buddy is a German Shepherd that my brother adopted when he was just a month old, he is just a few days away from his first 3 months of life. Considering his age and the low temperatures we are going through, the vet had not authorized him to go for a walk until he had completed his vaccination schedule, so it was not until last Sunday that Buddy went for his first walk in the park.
As a family event, we all accompanied Buddy on his first outdoor ride. The place for his debut was Madrid Rio Park, which is very close to my brother's house. Many people go there for walks, sports, recreational activities, and, of course, to walk their pets. So Buddy was not only surrounded by a crowd of people, but also by pets that stalked him, which ended up intimidating him.
Despite being a bit fearful and overwhelmed by all the new things he was experiencing, at some point he got the confidence to enjoy the ride, run around and socialize a bit. Although at the end of the day, the little guy ended up so exhausted that he wanted nothing more than to lie down and rest. Those were the few moments when it was possible to photograph him.
Sophi and Samuel are fascinated with Buddy; and he, like a playful puppy, goes crazy when we go to visit him because he already knows that in Sophi and Samuel he has a couple of accomplices to get into mischief...this is just the beginning.
