The thing with Laos is that it is not crowded, so poor people that can find a way to be content will live pretty decent lives provided they do not aspire to ever be rich. Laos is also a relatively huge country with lots of places to live. Singapore on the other hand has no choice but to go UP, there is no more side to side.
