We can exchange some recommendations! I would like some of the best films in recent Nollywood, regardless of genres. Gotta try it out, expand my view out there.

I am not sure what I wrote recently is up your alley. But if you want some C-drama that is closer to what you love:

  • Rattan; strong FL, sci-fi, mystery (Eng sub available on Youtube, YoYo English channel OR Rakuten and probably elsewhere too)
  • One And Only + Forever And Ever; this one is interesting, it is a novel adaptation but separated into two series that covers the past and the modern days. Different genres on each one but romance is the fixed component. (Eng sub available on iq.com)
  • The Romance of Tiger and Rose; historical romance, time/space travel is a popular subgenre in China and this one's a good one of it. (This one isn't free on YT with Eng. sub so you might have to look around what's available for you)

I think the modern drama are too close to K-drama so all I recommend are the more distinctive subgenres or set in ancient China (which I am sure is very different anything in ancient Korea).

If we are talking strictly variety shows, you should try out some of the Asian amateur reality dating shows. The amateurs are more authentic so I watch those over stars. At some points when they pull off some "moves from rom-drama you can't believe you are actually seeing it in real life", it just feels extra sweet cuz you know it's real and not acted (even though some reality shows are scripted, so...needs to know to differentiate them.)

Heart Signals and Love Catcher are two of the more famous series from S. Korea. If you want to try some Chinese, these are the best out of like 10+ that I watched: Heart Signals S2, Heart Signals S4, and Love Actually.
