Dear lovers of silver,

I was going through one of my most expensive silver coin series, the Ruanda African animals serie, and was shocked to see some issues popping up on some of the coins not in the original capsules.

What is the Ruanda African Ounce serie ?

In 2008 the Bavaria Mint issued a Ruanda Gorilla coin. In 2009 they came back with an Elefant and the serie was a fact. Untill today the serie continues but the most interesting part is that the initial mintage was some 3000 coins and 1000 for the proof making the year 2008 especially expensive and hard to find which is true also for 2009-2013.

I have the whole serie complete three times, twice in BU and one in proof versions. The gorilla is doing above 300 USD as we speak with lower amounts for the later coins.

How were they packaged ?

The coins were sealed in a special plastic foilage like this one

However many people removed them form this plastic and put them in capsules. The discussion always was whether the plastic sealing was good or not for the coin.
In hindsight the coins in original packaging are worth a little more than the capsuled coins. Initiaaly I removed the plastic but for the gorilaas I still have m in sealed packaging.

Now what?

I know noticed three of the capsuled coins showing brown edges. I am pissed as the capsules are from a good brand. Leuchtturm.

Can you see the toning here ?

These are the BU ones. I do not dare to look into the box of proof ones. However I will take m out of the capsules and put them in a cloth for now. I have to start selling these coins via Ebay before they all loose a lot of the value.
