Happy new week creatives!
I hope you are all having the best start to the week, well, I am because I am finally rounding up my exams and just have about 2 days to go, I'm happy because so far I am confident of my performance and also I get to have more time dedicated to my sewing passion.
I once shared the making process of a tulle sheer dress I made for a friend who at that time just moved into my area and I happened to be one of the first friends she made, since then, we've become even closer, growing our bond and friendship, one lifestyle that strengthened that bond is our love for creative fashion, she couldn't stop talking about how she was admired and her designer praised for doing justice to her dress, from then henceforth she has been a regular client.
so recently, she requested I remake another sheer dress for her with a different style and fabric but must still elude elegance, so I took up the project, and got inspired into making this beautiful dress which I will be sharing the making process with us.
I'm not sure what this fabric is called, but I decided to call it a mesh cord since it is similar to cord lace and because it will suit perfectly with the style I desired to make.
Cutting and making Process.
- It was difficult to draft directly on the fabric, so I used a pattern paper to draft out the basic gown pattern, which is a fitted long straight gown, before transferring it to the fabric.
- on the front pattern, I pleated a strip of the African print fabric which I used in designing the mesh cord, the strip is about 5 inches in width but folded to 2.5 inches before I started pleating.
- I also turned the neckline of the front and back part using a bias strip
- The back pattern has two pieces, so I attached a zipper to the back for easy wearing.
- Next, I cut out the sleeve pattern using the mesh fabric to draft a basic sleeve pattern, and the African sleeve for the double puff sleeve.
- To achieve the double puff sleeves, I gathered the upper part, sewed an elastic on the middle area, and also gathered the hem using an elastic.
- Finally, I joined the front and back dress by the shoulders and also joined both sleeves around the armhole before joining them by the sides and hemmed the base.
Here is the finished look, so unique and beautiful, yet again my friend was impressed and still wants more designs.
What do you think about this dress style? Let me know.
