Beautiful morning my Needlework family,
It's been a long while since I post about my bags as its been over a year since I last make bags. I paused to focus on other parts of my life but now, I decided to pick it back. You guys won't believe what motivated me to start making bags again. Firstly, the reason I stopped then was the fact that people weren't paying well for my bags and I produced quality and beautiful bags. It got so annoying that I decided to just stopp and it was also taking more of my time that I had little or no time to draw. Around last month, I was moved to put on my machines to see if they were still working after not using them in a long while and to my suprise and happiness, they worked perfectly well. Then they reminded me how much I love working with them and how much I love creating bags. It wasn't just about the money but the joy I derived in making them. And that was what motivated me and I'm super excited to be sharing my creative process with you guys today.
This bag is a new design and I call it "AMOPE" which is a traditional yoruba name. You guys know me, I love honoring my language as much as I can. The bag is a mini bag and it's different from any design I've made before. That's because, it has no chain on or short handle on the upper part. Instead, it has the small handle coming from the sides and the upper part having the magnets that closes the bag. It's such a beautiful design that it got orders the moment I created it.l and posted it online. Below I will be sharing with us how it came to life.
MATERIALS USED
- Fibre
- Synthentic skin leather
- Chi board paper
- Gum
- Buttom pins
- Anchor
- D rings
- Suade material (for lining)
- Tagging pins
- Leather glue
PROCESS
- The first thing I did was to create the pattern of the bag which I did on the Chi-board paper. After that, I cut the parts out on the fiber and the leather.
- Next I applied gum to the inner part of the leather and the fiber then I gummed them together as seen below.
- Then I applied the buttom pins to the down part of the bag and magnet to the lining of the upper part of the bag.
- Once that was set, I see the short handle and I fixed it to the side with the D rings using leather glue and tagging pins.
- Finally, I gummed the lining to the main body of the bag and the sides then I sew the sides together with the body using my cylinder bed machine.
