One thing about me, I'm always going to be excited about my birthday. When I was a child, people said it would change as I got older. Well, I'm older now and I'm glad to say the adrenaline is more every year. This isn't because I have a birthday vacation planned or a yacht cruise in Capri but the feeling is due to the anticipation for what the day holds; a day for me to be celebrated. What's not interesting about that? From the sweet message I would receive to the gifts and seeing my face in everybody's story. It means a lot to me, more than you can imagine.
Well, yesterday was my birthday, the 29th of October. Going deeper into adulthood is scary, I can't lie but the anxiety doesn't overwhelm the gratitude in my heart. When I got up in the morning, I took a moment to reflect on my past. There are several things I've not experienced or witnessed ever like an accident or being a victim, amongst other things. This realization caused me to go deep in appreciation for God.
Prior to my birthday, I had plans to go out to a park with my friends. I wanted to go on rides and feel like a child again. My plan couldn't work out because of the security unrest ln Abuja. I got paranoid, canceled my outing, and opted to stay home instead. My indoor birthday constituted of me receiving the sweetest messages and trying hard not to cry. I caught up on new episodes of a Tyler Perry series Zatima, with my sister. I got some cute and thoughtful gifts, and credit alerts too. My mouth didn't stop moving. it was from one snack to another. To round up the day, I went out for drinks in the evening with my sisters and I totally had a blast. My day was great and I enjoyed all the love I got. I didn't want it to come to an end.
My previous year was uneventful but life-changing. I developed this great relationship with myself and it's my biggest win ever. I learned to treat myself with care, pay attention to my needs, be selfish, create boundaries and stick with them. Most importantly, I've been intentional with my relationship with God. In my previous year, I felt grown. I set goals and worked diligently towards smashing them. I made amazing friends and let go of people who were not good for me. I also learned to accept my flaws and imperfections and build on them rather than hate myself for them. It was in that year I started writing and I'm proud of myself for taking the bold step.
I've not been on the earth for ages but I've learned some important lessons that I would like to share. First, nobody is responsible for your happiness but you. You must choose what makes you happy. Another thing is that nobody is ever going to love you as you love yourself. You are the main character in your life and you should treat yourself as such. People don't really care as much as you think, dem no send you like that. So it's best to live life and do what you want apologetically. But don't forget, actions have consequences so be wise.
For my new year, I really want to live life. I want to travel, eat new food, get piercings, leave my comfort zone and try new things. I would absolutely hate to ever lose the child in me. I desire to be an upgraded version of myself. I want to have the confidence of Beyonce on stage. Lastly, I want to please myself every time and make more money. I'm only available for the soft life.
Be kind to drop a birthday wish for me and guess my age. Hint: Early 20s.
