Hello Photography lovers,

I hope you are well. Today, I’m taking you back to November 2023, to Taytay on Palawan Island in the Philippines.

We got these spots recommended by some local sailors. Going up the east coast of Palawan, we did a lot of motoring, but once we got to Taytay, it was really easy to refill the fuel tanks since the fuel station is just walking distance from the floating dock.

Finding supplies can be extremely challenging for us sometimes. Clean diesel is hard to find, which is why many sailors use apps to share locations where they have found good diesel. Filling gas tanks is particularly difficult. Since we have New Zealand gas bottles, we need new fittings for Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. If we are lucky, we can sometimes find a shop that refills our original bottles. We cannot swap gas bottles because we have a designated space for our gas bottles with no extra room for another tank.

We use a lot of induction cooking since we have 1.2 kW of solar power and a 90A alternator on our engine. However, we sometimes run out of power when we have problems with our charging systems. These challenges are just some of the many we have to face, and we deal with them step by step. It can be extremely overwhelming at times.

I find it really hard to film or take photos of smoke or fog, but I think I managed well in these shots. It's really fun flying through smoke and trying to get the perfect angle for a shot. The photo above has an amazing reflection in the little pond nestled in the village.

All Southeast Asian countries burn their rubbish. In the Philippines, this usually happens in the morning, with everything—plastics, food, wood, and leaves—burned together. This creates a terrible smell that you will need to get used to if you are travelling extensively in the country.
