In writing to the Corinthians, Paul showed in chapters 12 and 14 of his first epistle, that God is a God who speaks. He says that we no longer serve the dumb idols (1 Corinthians 12.2), but the living God who speaks with each one of us; and then he cites the gifts of the Spirit as one of the different means by which God speaks. But by showing that we can hear the voice of the Lord, he also made it clear that we can hear other types of voices:

"There are, for example, many species of voices in the world, and none of them is without meaning" (1 Corinthians 14.10).

We read that there are not only different languages, but different VOICES. We have heard many species of voices in our spiritual life; the devil, the world and the flesh, our cruel enemies, will try in every way to stifle the voice of God in us so that we listen to them. But, on the other hand, if we let the Word of God be manifested with "voice as of many waters", then the other voices will be disguised and the Word of the Lord will prevail.

There are many types of voices in the world. Sometimes we feel pressured to hear a voice that does not harmonize with God's. We recognize that the voice of the Lord says the opposite, we know that we are wrong, but even so, we are so imprisoned that we end up going in the wrong direction. And then we get frustrated, condemned and regretted.

We question: Why do not we hear the Word of God? How is it possible to know what the Lord says, and still do the opposite? The reason is that we are far from the Word of God in that area; This is the only and great truth of why this happens. If we approach what God says, receiving the life and revelation of the Holy Spirit in that area, then the other voices will be disguised. If we move away from the Word (and I do not mean the Book itself, but the Living Word), then the other voices will stand out. What voice has prevailed in your life?
