We're only two weeks into our communal HIVE journey, and already, plenty has happened. I thought I would go ahead and highlight some of the things I've experienced firsthand.
STEEM To HIVE Trading
It was a little after 7:30 AM when I got out to my office and checked the price of Hive. It had fallen somewhat, and after some more poking around, I discovered that STEEM had come up some. At that point, STEEM was trading above the price of HIVE.
I'm in the beginning stages of a STEEM Power Down, my first ever. I'd checked on prices quite a bit in over the last two or so weeks in hopes of trading my STEEM in for HIVE to power back up, but couldn't quite bring myself to make the exchange. It wasn't so much that I wanted HIVE to come down (not sure how that's good), but dropping 400-500 STEEM in the trade for HIVE didn't seem like such a great deal, either.
So, I waited, and this time, was somewhat rewarded for it.
You can see the transactions I've made. I was pretty even on the first trade, which is really where I wanted to be. The next three ended up lower each time. That final number was for 345.657 STEEM. All told, I swapped 1,845.657 STEEM for 1,781.652 HIVE. Had I been up earlier, or made one transaction instead of seeing which direction the prices were headed, I could have done better, but all in all, I'm okay with how things went down.
Now, the question becomes, will that be the best I can do?
No one here wants to see HIVE drop below STEEM. I know I don't want that. However, if both were to decide to go up, staying more or less in tandem, I wouldn't mind it.
As of 5 PM Pacific Time while I was still writing this, STEEM overtook HIVE again. I don't know how quickly this will get posted, but if you're interested, see where it is now.
HBD To HIVE
You can also see I converted a bit of HBD to HIVE, too, in order to power it up. I've been trying to match the amount of HBD with what I get in SP on payouts, but the ratio of HBD to HIVE has been less than the HP I received when I go to the HIVE market. It reminds me of how things were for most of 2018 with STEEM payouts. Problem is, I've been used to the way it was for quite a bit of 2019 and the first part of this year, where we were rewarded half and half in SP and STEEM rather than SBD. I need to get used to HBD, though I see that STEEM is low enough again that the payouts are showing up in a mixture of HP/HBD/HIVE.
More Bittrex Publicity
HIVE managed to get to the market page of Bittrex again (before this latest dip). The numbers aren't quite as high as they were last time, but I feel like anytime HIVE can show gains during a downturn for other crypto, that's a good thing. I feel this can only bode well for trading on Bittrex at least, and maybe word can get around to other exchanges, too.
HIVE On More Indices
It was just a week after HIVE happened that I discovered CoinGecko was tracking HIVE activity on Bittrex. Then Probit joined the party shortly thereafter.
Yesterday, I decided to see if HIVE was available on Coinbase yet. While they only seem to be allowing trading for a select group of alt coins, 20 or so, Coinbase does let you watch many others. When I first went looking about a week ago, HIVE wasn't there. However, that's apparently changed in the interim. You can't trade for it yet, but just like with Bittrex, I think the more HIVE pops up in as many places as it can, the better.
The first crypto index I ever used to watch STEEM values with was WorldCoinIndex, until I just decided to refresh Coinbase all the time (WCI uses a lot of browser resources). Still, it's another place I check periodically, and so, after finding HIVE on Coinbase, I figured I'd look up HIVE on WCI. Sure enough, HIVE was tracking there, too. Looks like HIVE started there on March 28.
More Migration
All kinds of stuff we were used to seeing on STEEM started making an appearance, a lot of it in this second week. For those of us who are okay with hiveblocks but who also like different ways of displaying the data, Hive-Now is available, thanks to pablopenguin. Hive.supply by dragosroua has also made it over.
A couple of days ago, Yabapmatt announced he'd whipped together HIVEBot on Discord (you know, in his spare time) for all of us patiently waiting for GINABot to make the leap. It's been nice to hear the beeps of engagement on posts and comments again since I set HIVEBot up.
Then, buildteam announced that GINABot would indeed show up on HIVE on April 5 in an announcement on its Discord channel.
Alt-Tokens
For those who have been trading on STEEM-Engine, Hive-Engine also made it over earlier than originally anticipated, though it doesn't look like any of the tokens that were on STEEM-Engine will be coming with it. I've been reading through the different progress posts, and haven't seen what the process might be for bringing tokens from S-E To H-E if someone desired to transfer them.
In my case, I have some SNAXP I'd like to move if possible.
Speaking of which, it sounds like folks behind SNAX.ONE will be making the move to support HIVE, too, along with STEEM and Twitter, as soon as they can get up to speed.
Contest
No doubt there are others that have made it over, but one I've participated in quite a bit is Food Fight Friday. An announcement has recently been made that it will be premiering on HIVE next Friday. So, if you're at all interested in talking about food, I recommend checking it out.
No definitive word about the Engagement and Curation Leagues yet, though a prerequisite HIVESQL (is that right) by arcange is up and running.
More To Come?
Undoubtedly. A lot of work has been done on our behalf to get us to where we are, and more will need to be done to get us where we're going. I think it's a pretty good start. There are topics of discussion that are looming, however, that I hope we'll be able to undertake sooner than later, but for now, I'm good with acknowledging all of the progress that's being made and how it's impacting me personally.
I'm cautiously optimistic from what I've seen so far. I'm not entirely sure of what direction we're heading in yet, but I'm okay with not knowing that for now as we all kind of take a moment to catch our collective breath and get used to our new surroundings and stand down from the experiences that propelled most of us here.
In other words, the mountain is still there, and we're all still in mid-climb.
So...
