San Juanico Bridge is the longest bridge in the Philippines crossing sea waters. Other long bridges were built crossing farmland, so technically, San Juanico still holds the title of the longest bridge in our country.
Anyway, we are no more than 10 kilometers away from this famous bridge. This is the reason why we frequent here, especially if we have visitors. As they say, 'you haven't been to Tacloban (our city), if you haven't been to San Juanico Bridge.'
This massive work of art was built as a gift of the then Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos, to his wife, Imelda Marcos, who is born and raised in Tacloban City.
Since Philippines is an archipelago, a bridge is an important structure for easier transportation. We are greatly helped by this bridge to traverse the islands of Leyte and Samar.
San Juanico bridge is unique because of its unconventional structure. Instead of being straight, it forms the letters "L" and "S"--initials of the two connected islands of Leyte and Samar.
Adding to its beauty is the picturisque mountain and islets surrounding it.
I am so happy to see the theme of the "Take a Pic Contest" for this week, because I can showcase my favorite bridge. Hahaha! 'Love your own,' right?
