and your pen bleeds where your wrist was cut

love is a well scented shackle
strong enough to bind your feet down
into the quick sand that swallowed you
long before you learnt to walk.

playing a tune, a hapless one
that serenades sorrow and whitewashed wishes
because the melodies float in strings of smoke
burning from an ember of neglect
and with every song, your are drained more.

Nobody really cares.
They are apparitons with gifts of applause.
