Exactly 7 years ago on a Wednesday July 1st at 4 o'clock in the afternoon I was preparing everything to go downtown to get copies of my identity documents and university grades, because one of the best state oil and gas companies in Venezuela had called me for an interview with them, to do my university internships, So I was very busy and in that moment I took a car to get to the center of the city, at that moment a coworker of my husband called me and told me that he had had an accident and I was very scared but the coworker did not want to tell me what had happened, at that moment the only thing I did was to go straight to the hospital.
It was a little surprising because his partner never told me where they were, but I arrived right where they were, and suddenly I found the scene of seeing my husband lying down and I was going to take an x-ray of his entire spine because he could not move anything at all, I was there and when we saw each other the only thing we did was cry, he hugged me and told me that the pain was so incredible that he felt like he was going to die, so somehow he told me that he loved me and was like saying goodbye to me, I told him not to do that and to trust in God that everything was going to be ok.
Of course it is difficult to say that when the truth was not well, the only thing left to do was to trust, then when I left the area where they had him while they were doing the plaque, a co-worker told me what had happened.
It turns out that they were about to finish their workday, he was working at that time in a stationery store and was going with his partner to bring material up to a 4th floor to leave it stored, the partner told him that he was going to take it up and my husband insisted that he was not going to do it, that there was no problem, and so he went up to take the material but when he was going down to the first floor to go home, the elevator came off with him inside.
That was crazy, something amazing, they tell me that he tried to get up in desperation when they went to help him, but his body did not respond.
By the time the doctors had done the x-ray, we found out that he had fractured his spine, and had 4 fractures in his foot, I was so grateful that he was alive, for me it was a miracle, if it had been his companion (a very thin boy) he would have died because his body would not resist the impact.
After that day we were living in the hospital for literally 3 months, I remember that day I went to look for my things in the house, some sheets, some important things and I just went to live there with him, because I knew he needed me.
He lasted 15 days before he was operated on, so he was inert, stiff in bed without any movement, and the day he was operated on I think I let out all the tears I had not let out so he would not see me cry, I remember asking the doctors if he would walk again and no one could tell me, I just wanted to know to prepare myself psychologically to know what I would have to face and do the best way. After that day we were living in the hospital for literally 3 months, I remember that day I went to look for my things in the house, some sheets, some important things and I just went to live there with him, because I knew he needed me.
Thanks to God he managed to come out of that operation with success, it is something very strong that kind of operation and the pain is enormous, even so we saw the hand of God bless us and give him the strength to face it.
Then to operate on his foot the process was very slow, the health system in Venezuela works with everything they can despite the difficulties, but it is very complicated, as a reaction to the sudden fall he had inflamed all the internal organs of his body so there were values that had very altered and until they were not normalized he could not be operated and so it was 2 months, until they took the decision to operate on his foot and everything went well.
It is incredible because as soon as we were discharged to be able to return home, that was a Friday morning, that same day they called me again from the oil company where I was going to do my internship and I explained everything that happened, they told me to go on Monday if I could and although I was reluctant to go because of the same situation of my husband, he motivated me to go, they interviewed me on Monday and on Wednesday of that week I started my internship, my family supported me by taking care of my husband while he was in the internship and then I was incarcerated.
I can simply say that I lived and was part of a miracle, God took care of him and preserved him, today he walks and leads a life as normal as possible.
Real life and its challenges sometimes blind us to see how God has his hand all around us, we just have to focus our spiritual sight to recognize it.
