In this version of time
Your future self can see your past self
They can look back and shake their head
But they can not communicate,
Warn, or advise the past self of any future choices
In fear the universe may implode.
Likewise, the past self
Can see the future self
Growing old living happy or alone
critiquing the decision
Good or bad that led them in certain directions
But the past self can not escape
It’s future self
No matter how much they may disapprove
of the future self’s choices.
For they are bound to the linear motion of time.
In both cases,
Each half of the self
Is a prisoner of the other’s self
Neither living for today
As the present self,
Both mentally trapped
One in fear of the future,
The other dwelling in the regrets of the past.
