The paradoxes and contradictions in Ghana’s static development beats imagination because there is enough resources in Ghana to help it find solutions to its problem. In as much as development is contextual in-terms of definition, the same cannot be said of Ghana looking at the starting point at independence. Because the concept of development is contested in scope and definition, one cannot give it a definition to encompass its spheres. But it'll be difficult for one to argue that Ghana has seen development after the overthrow of Nkrumah.
The Agriculture sector has been neglected after the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah with little or no effort to revive it. Over sixty years after independence, our peasant farmers continue to depend on rain fed, agriculture and the system of farming is as old as the methods used by Hunters and Gatherers some millenniums ago. The youth are discourage from venturing into agriculture because there is no motivation and the sector is riddled with try and error policies that are not engineered to benefit the poor farmer. The contribution of Agriculture to the economy remains low and this neglect would have a dire consequence if not checked.

Our educational sector has become worse with Politician touting themselves for improving it yet their kids do not attend these schools. Sixty years after the liberation of Ghana there are several schools under trees with inadequate teaching and learning materials yet we want our pupils to compete globally. Today, education is lost in our schools and party cards have become more valuable that university certificates. Meritocracy is not part of the lexicon today but rather job for the boys is the new mantra.
Several years after independence, corruption has moved from digital to analogue with systemic and mega looting by state officials. The fight against ignorance, injustice, disease and corruption has become nothing but a mere rhetoric. Our political elites are now interested in winning the argument by comparing mediocre records that does not benefit the subalterns.

There’s no doubt that there’s a nexus between human security and development, because no State can experience development and rapid growth amidst insecurity and chaos. Thus, the cornerstone for development and growth is based on security. But our self-centered politicians are concerned about their pockets and not unemployment that leads to insecurity. They have distribute contracts among themselves and their western cronies forming a cabal with the state being its dining table. Ghana's development has become a paradox, where the enormous resources do not benefit the poor and profits accrued results in capital flights while the sector itself has become an enclave point for Western transnational and conglomerates.
Our democracy too has become a caricature where the ruling class disregard the rule of law with impunity. Our democratic architecture has made politicians demigods on the people who gave them the legitimacy to rule. The media that ought to serve as guardians of the realm has become nothing but an echo chamber and a guard dog over the elites instead on being a watchdog for the benefit of the subalterns. Almost all the sectors in Ghana has seen no development or the development is not enough looking at our resource.

To conclude, I believe the political class should sit up and genuinely tackles Ghana socio-economic problems or the security threat it poses to this nation would be paid with the blood of innocent Ghanaians. They should learn from the Arab Spring.
