Our democracy dividends suffered a major setback when some miscreants within the Army and the CIA plotted and overthrew the first president Kwame Nkrumah. In decades to come, Ghana suffered from series of coups and this further weaken the strong institutions Nkrumah had started to build.
After one military government morphed into civilian government, we adopt unto ourselves a constitution that safeguard human rights, personal liberty, freedom of speech etc. but little did we know that we have also adopt unto ourselves leaders who by discretion of the constitution can loot state resources and go around with impunity and immunity.
Under Ghana's sham democracy, to get justice serve as a difficult as getting snow in hell. The poor who cannot pay bribe is likely not to be served with justice. Our prison are chocked with persons who steal for survival yet, the bigger thiefs walk around and masquerade as leaders whom we must celebrate.
Our institutions are growing weaker and weaker yet we are touted and celebrated as the citadel of democracy in Africa. Journalist cannot be critical anymore without fearing for their lives. Party hoodlums wields more power and can invade the sanctity of our courts to threaten Judges.
Ghana's wealth is distributed to the few political class and their foreign conglomerates. Wealth inequality has widen over the years with astronomical unemployment rate yet the political class tout themselves for creating non-existing jobs.
Ghana's democracy has began to stink and sink due to the bogus constitution that serves as the guiding principles for the rulers to loot more and go unscratched.
