Being the eldest of six siblings, I was taught that one of my responsibilities was to care for and help those helpless demons. Who would think of giving a child such a chore? However, it didn't scare me. I felt important and I knew I could handle the mission. It seems that serving, and helping is a factory defect or an added value.
Then, by owning that detail and not knowing how to hide it, many realized the potential. I was given assignments to fix toys and teach them to read and as I grew older the assignments increased in difficulty.
This did not stay at home. Soon the requests from uncles, cousins, and even the school became famous. I fulfilled my orders like a robot, nobody noticed or wondered if I was happy with it. Yes, I was happy, I liked to be a collaborator, to solve. What I didn't like was to meet with people or to be seen giving solutions and much less to be congratulated.
Continuing to rewind my life, I remember that, at the age of 21, Tahimi (who today is with the heavenly father) and I decided to live together. Yet another crazy thing. What a desire to complicate our lives.
We rented an apartment in Carrizales, a dormitory town near Caracas, Venezuela. One of my sisters-in-law at the time, came to us with the idea of moving in with us, but the package was not just her, her boyfriend was also coming. I analyzed it, I saw that it would help to pay the rent and utilities. We accepted. By now I already knew Guillermo and I knew what a good person he was.
We moved in on a weekend. The apartment was spacious, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a huge balcony. Each couple had their bedroom furniture. Each one contributed with dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, and the stove. An electric stove that I don't remember where it came from.
We were all happy, listening to music and doing some homework. Yoli and Tahimi were preparing something to eat and using the one-burner stove. Guillermo was in a room and I was on the balcony, messing around with some worms, seeds, and soil.
When suddenly there were deafening screams from the girls. Guillermo arrived first in the kitchen and the first thing he did was shout my name. When I make my presence known, I see that the three of them are jumping like crazy, scared around the kitchen throwing sparks. They looked like cavemen jumping around the fire.
I immediately ran to a closet in the hallway where the breaker was located. I unplugged everything. I went back to the kitchen and saw the look of relief on everyone's face. I liked that. Further back came the hugs and congratulations for what I had done. Guillermo asked me: how had I thought of disconnecting the breakers, to which I answered: I just did it, I didn't think about it.
In 2010, living in Barquisimeto in my divorced apartment, my brother Tony visited me with the twins; they were very young. Tony insisted on having a spaghetti party, I didn't oppose it. While he was in the kitchen, the kids were in the bedroom, playing, and I was uncorking a green bottle of Buchanan's.
When suddenly the windows began to vibrate and rattle eerily. I immediately ran into the room, and grabbed Erika and Gabriel, the twins, in my arms. I went out of the room, passed the girl to Tony shouting at the same time that we had to go downstairs immediately because she was shaking and it was hard.
I was scared, but I just thought I had to get my family out of the building. When we got to the first floor, I asked my brother why he had remained stiff, he did not know how to answer. I asked him if he had locked the door of the apartment because there were valuables and he said no.
Without thinking I ran up the stairs to the apartment. I remember that while I was going up, a neighbor coming down, told me that it was shaking again, it was an aftershock, to come down, but I was on automatic, my mission was to close the apartment. Then I came down and they told me I was crazy.
So many things happened throughout my life and even at work. At different times in my working life, I didn't just stay in my IT functions. I was always on the lookout for solutions. So I got into the world of accounting, in the warehouses, in all departments of the company, even in the design of offices, search for national and international suppliers, and so on. It was as if I had Felix the cat's bag or BATMAN's belt and everyone was happy.
Today, with a few decades behind me, nothing has changed. I am still born in me to minister, to look for solutions. It is a beautiful, immense satisfaction. But I have gone beyond that. I have immersed myself in spiritual and even psychiatric matters. Of course, without pretending to be a specialist or therapist. Always helping others, and solving. I only had one time when I didn't help anyone, it was when I was the one who needed help. The solution I saw was not pretty.
I feel that I am a problem solver, but when I analyze it well, it is like an impulse, it is not something planned. Something in me is ignited that looks for the right solution and I act. It is not that I get involved in things that are impossible to solve, there is something that tells me that I can do it and I do it. If not, then I look for someone who can solve it. The mission is to provide solutions.
This incentive reminded me of Guillermo, his face, his expression. The fact that I made the decision and he did not. A simple solution. Today, he is in Panama giving solutions.
