A stand alone experiment where i created a collage artwork on three plexiglass sheets. The purpose was to create a 3D effect and a depth between the layers. The deepest layer is a black coloured plexiglass where all of the background and some of the butterflies were made. The next layer is the first transparent one and it included all of the swarm of butterflies. The last one had the portrait and a few more butterflies. It was a rather time consuming creation, as i had to cut and assemble a lot of pieces before gluing and make sure the result will be the way i imagined it. Also had to be extra careful not to make a mess of the plexiglasses with fingerprints and excess glue.
I was inspired by the butterfly tattoo on the girl's hand and i asked the photographer, who is a friend of mine, to send a high resolution photo to work with. The butterfly motif is one of my favourites, i use it a lot in my art as a symbol with various meanings.Overall i am happy with the work done but with four sheets of plexiglass the artwork is very heavy and of course very expensive.
