I made some toothpaste about 2 years ago and it ran out, so it way time to make more!
• Sodium Bicarbonate
• Fullers Earth (Calcium Bentonite)
• Diatomaceous Earth
• Kaolin White
• Mortar and pestle
• Mixing Bowl (optional depending on amount)
• Container
Take the Fullers Earth (small amount) and pound it in the Mortar and pestle to crush any large bits in it. The Fullers Earth is the most abrasive ingredient in the mix, it should be very fine already, but just to be sure large pieces are crushed then put it through the Mortar and pestle then add to the mixing bowl.
The Diatomaceous Earth is acting as one of the very fine abrasives and the diatom shells should be very good at grabbing and pulling in stuff off the teeth that we don't want to be there.
Kaolin clay is used in many toothpastes and so I decided to add it this time also to my mix, the previous mix did not have this ingredient in it, so it will be interesting to see the difference. My intention in adding it was to be a very light abrasive and to add a better taste to the mix. I used it in the bath and it has a nice texture to it.
This forms the bulk of the toothpaste and so 3 tablespoons heaped was used. Sodium Bicarbonate has hundreds of uses and if you can get some in bulk as it is by itself good as a toothpaste and as mentioned for many many other things. I'd recommend getting a good book that lists all it can be used for and have that on your homestead and/or bug in location.
Put all the ingredients together and mix them thoroughly. The Fullers Earth is only a small amount but once it's all mixed it will be a slight shade of what the Fullers Earth is.
With 3 tablespoons of bicarb and the other amounts it filled up the container I use to halfway. This should last about 1 year, going off the amount of time the last batch lasted for.
Keep the lid on, whatever container you do put it in. I need to get a glass container ideally. Keeping it sealed will make sure that moisture and other contaminants don't get into it. You are putting this in your mouth so don't leave your toothbrush or this mixture out in the open!
Be safe and be prepared and look after your teeth!
