Life as a student isn't a walk in the park, especially when you are a freshman and new to the environment. Trying to figure your way around the school, coupled with other activities can be quite tasking.
Worst of all is when you are running low on funds and you know your chances of getting help is quite slim.
This was the stage I was in when I got into school of midwifery.
I had left my comfort zone, which was my home to a new destination, a new environment, a new school to get a degree.
I moved into the hostel.
To be honest, I wasn't a really a fan of communal living but I didn't have a choice. I could not get an apartment outside of school, so I opted for the hostel.
I resumed school a bit late and by the time I got to the hostel, it was almost full. I had roommates already and was the last person to make the room full.
Fast forward to a few weeks in the school, I found out that to buy anything, one would have to leave the school premises and walk a distance.
That was a serious problem, as most times students would be too exhausted to go out and get anything, especially at night.
That was when my journey as a student entrepreneur started.
The first item I got were eggs.
They sold really fast.
Then I added noodles and the mini business kept growing.
I added a few other condiments like fresh pepper, onions, sugar, groundnut.
I even started doing side dishes like noodles and eggs, bread and eggs, plantain and eggs, popcorn and even cupcakes.
I did that for about a year.
I was always busy, trying to juggle school work with my side hustle.
The space allocated to me in the hostel was always occupied with foodstuffs, so much so that my own personal stuff took a backseat in my space.
To be honest, it was not all rosy.
Some days I would be so exhausted to go out and restock. I could not even travel home because I didn't want to disappoint my customers.
In all, I loved the fact that I found a problem and was able to profer solution in the little way I could.
If given the chance to do it again, I would, and this time I believe I would be smart about it and not make the mistakes I made then.
