I am the strongest you've ever seen;
I was groomed where danger looms, yet not doomed
I was enslaved in the middle east
Where the beasts feast on human wrists
I was beaten, worked for days without eating
Chained like an oxen ready for slain
Covered with dirt as rashes dine on my skin
No permutation of words can explain the pains on my skin and none akin to the pain i felt within
I was tortured till the humanity in me ruptured
And its crumbs dumped in fire to burn
So many gave up the ghost, cremated, and their ashes thrown a coast
I kept fighting but it seemed like hope was soon lost in thin air
Seeing the light of another day comes with the fear of another inhumane burden to bear
All that could cross my fragile mind was the thought of home
My mother land though with her seemingly unbearable inadequacies
I had the freedom of a lark soaring in the dark night
I sang the anthem of my home, loud in the night that I could feel the vibrations in my crumbling bones
"Home sweet.....sweet home, home I'm feeling lone,
home call me on the phone, that you are missing your own"
The slave master couldn't bear the annoyance of my disturbance
Though I'm lacking in strength, I sang with the tense of my pains, my senses couldn't realise the nonsenses in my utterances
I was saying gibberish, all the while I was singing
I was thrown into the jungle to rot with dirt on earth
'He is dead' they said, only the ants could have heard the faint beating of my heart
It was a struggle with the reaper for hurdle of days
Next I saw myself on a saddle floating on hays
Someone hunting heard my grunting and came to my rescue
I could have been in the jungle for weeks, no one had a clue
But ask me how I survived
My scars shall tell the tale, because my scars and I are the same
"I thrived in the hottest of days, I found the way back to my home, my place, even when the haze covered my face, and the harmattan at its peak, dried up my throat that I couldn't speak".
....to be continued
